Finches and Owls and Nuthatches (Oh My!): Winter Irruptives in Indiana

In the winter season, many birds look forward to visits by a set of species that only visit us in some years. Called "winter irruptives," these birds can be found seemingly everywhere in some years but are completely absent in others. Examples include crossbills, redpolls, siskins, some owls and the red-breasted nuthatch.  Dr. Barny Dunning will explain some of the biology behind the movement patterns of these birds and discuss how our ideas about migration are changing.

This monthly meeting will be held virtually using Zoom. To attend this meeting, copy or type the following link into your browser: bit.ly/WVAS-Winter-Irruptives
